10 Ways to Freshen Up Your Home this Spring

The spring season is all about having a refresh, whether that’s replacing old worn out items or giving them a new lease of life. Replacing lots of your household items can be expensive, so we’ve come up with 10 tips for refreshing your home that won’t hurt your pocket!

Clean kitchen

Deep Clean Your Carpets

It has probably been a little while since your carpets have had a good clean. While vacuuming picks up larger particles in your carpet, dust and bacteria can still remain and cause your carpet to smell. With a carpet shampoo and cleaner, you can have a fresh smelling home; your carpets will also feel much softer and even look as good as new.

Rub Lemon on Your Chopping Board

To keep your kitchen smelling great all the time, rub half a lemon on your chopping board and leave it to stand for half an hour. The lemon will soak into the wood, killing any germs while leaving behind a fresh and clean scent. Once it has soaked in, rinse it thoroughly and place it on the kitchen side.

Clean the Oven with Bicarbonate of Soda

Oven cleaning can be a time and labour intensive task, but a small amount of bicarbonate of soda can make it easier. Combine bicarbonate of soda with water a spray bottle and you’ve got your own hard working oven-cleaning spray. When spraying the solution on the interior surfaces of your oven, make sure to avoid the heating elements and leave the solution overnight to achieve the best results.

Wash Any Furniture Covers

If your sofa or dining table cloth hasn’t been washed in a while, it may look dull and discoloured and smell musty. They can often be taken off and put in a washing machine making them easy to clean. You should also make sure to add some fabric conditioner to the wash (if the label instructions state it is safe to do so) to leave the fabric feeling soft and smelling fragrant.

Touch up Scuffs and Marks on Walls

Your walls and skirting boards may have been knocked or rubbed up against, leaving marks that can deter from your home’s decor. This is especially true if you have little ones running around the house. With a fresh lick of paint you can brighten up your home and make your space feel as good as new!

Add More Storage and Display Space

A lack of display and storage space can result in your home looking and feeling cluttered. With the addition of some shelving or a radiator cover, you can provide more space for showing off your favourite items. Shelving will also add another dimension to your decor by giving your pieces a tiered display area.

Mirrors Make a Space Feel More Open

An easy way to open up a space without paying a lot for an extension is to add mirrors, giving the effect of a bigger area. The reflection can cause any room in your home to feel more open and spacious, whether that’s your living room, hallway or bedroom.

Replace Cushions and Throws

A cost effective way to make your decor feel fresh and new is to replace any cushions and throws. This simple change has a big effect and allows you to add different tones and textures to your space. They are also very easy to swap and change, letting you experiment with your home’s style.

Add a Rug

If your carpet is stained or just isn’t what it once was, you can add a rug rather than replacing the whole carpet (which, as we know, can be very expensive). A rug also has the ability to change the aesthetics of a room by incorporating different textures, patterns and colours to your floor.

Clean Lampshades and Replace Bulbs

Sometimes dull lighting can be relaxing, but your main lighting should be bright for when you need it. Over time your lights can become dim from dust and usage, making it harder to see in your home when it’s dark. Cleaning your lampshades and replacing your dull light bulbs will get them back to being bright and welcoming.
